Duisburg-Chilliwick Scholarship for Academic Excellence
at the German School of San Francisco
It is one of our greatest joys to accompany our students on the path to mastering the German language. So it is with great pleasure for me to announce the recipients of the 2026 Duisburg-Chilliwick Scholarship for Academic Excellence at the German School of San Francisco.

Romi Karson

Shea Moelleken O’Brien and Grady Moelleken O’Brien
While attending the German School of San Francisco (GSSF), all three students showed a strong dedication to learning and mastering the German language. They spent countless Saturdays of their young lives attending class and studying to improve their German skills. As much as they would have loved to sleep in, they made their way every Saturday morning and later on online on Monday night and applied themselves to excel in German grammar and spelling, improve their reading proficiency, and wrote long essays and discussed current events.
All three students passed the DSDII. One part of this difficult academic test is a presentation about a controversial current issue, each student successfully presented on these compelling topics:
· Romi presented the challenges with fast fashion and so-called organic clothing.
· Shea researched the pro and cons of early sports specialization (ESS) in young athletes
· Grady discussed the topic of all volunteer military versus draft
Both Shea and Grady were also teaching assistants at GSSF and we are very grateful for their continued involvement with the GSSF program and community.
