Our Mission

The German School of San Francisco was founded in 1935 and strives to provide a language learning environment in which children and adults of multicultural backgrounds experience “Sprachvergnuegen,” the joy of learning the German language and the culture and traditions of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

The School recognizes that the earlier language training begins and the longer this training continues, the more successful a student will be as a language learner; therefore, the School is committed to providing language instruction for students 2.5 to 18 years of age. We also offer adults classes, often for parents of enrolled younger students but also for any person wishing to learn German.

The School strives to foster global awareness in its students and to prepare young people to be competitive in the global marketplace as well as to become critical and informed citizens in the globalized economy.

The German School of San Francisco wants to instill attitudes in its students that will help them to see themselves as citizens of the world.

The German School of San Francisco is committed to academic excellence. It prepares students for the AATG (American Association of Teachers of German) and AP-like tests administered by the German government which enhance students’ chances of admission into German universities. Learning another language also promotes achieving excellence in their secondary school pursuits.

The School encourages each student and faculty member to fulfill his/her potential.

The School recognizes varying abilities and learning styles of students and is committed to providing education in an environment that is both stimulating and caring.
