Teacher: Anja Gutbrod-Pollitz

Anja Pollitz Gutbrot

Hi, my name is Anja, and I have been working at GSSF since September 2015. I am very honored to teach the A2/DSD I class. Originally, I am from Germany. I was born in the state of Saarland but grew up in Baden-Württemberg. I studied Pedagogy, German, French, and Geography, and got my teaching degree for primary and secondary education from the College of Education (Pädagogische Hochschule) in Karlsruhe.

As a teacher, I see myself as a tutor to my students. I love learning, and I love teaching, and I wish to instill curiosity and imagination in my students. I want them to get interested in many different aspects of learning and make learning a joyful experience.

Before coming to GSSF, I taught at the German Saturday School in Oakland and was a testing coordinator for two years. I represent the GSSF at the German American School Association of Northern California (GASANC), the umbrella organization of all Bay Area German Saturday schools.

I am married to an American from Florida and have two daughters ages 27 and 23 who live in Germany and the Netherlands respectively. During the week, I am working as a bookseller at a small independent bookstore in the East Bay. In my spare time I love to do genealogy, read, hike, take photos, and spend time with my husband and our dog.
